Tefft Savanna Nature Preserve
Tefft Savanna Nature Preserve includes an oak savanna that is perhaps wetter than most. The preserve consists of two tracts adjacent to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish & Wildlife Area.
County Road 1000 North, a badly rutted dirt road that gets more primitive as it continues to the west, divides the largest and most accessible area.
Stands of oak trees are interspersed with glades prone to seasonal ponding, along with areas that hold water year round. Use caution, as DNR permits hunting in season.
There are no established trails, so you may find it most convenient to walk into the preserve along the road and make forays into its interior.
Jasper County. From the intersection of US 421 and IN 10, go west 4.0 miles on IN 10 to 400 East, then south 2.0 miles to 1000 North. A marked parking area is located at the southwest corner of the intersection.
