Shakamak State Park

Indiana Natural Areas: Clay County

Indiana Natural Areas: Greene County

Indiana Natural Areas: Sullivan County

Shakamak’s principal physical feature is a large reservoir divided into three lakes. Facilities crowd its shores. There are four trails; at four miles, Trail 1 is the longest. Most of its tread is along or near the shore of Lake Shakamak, and while scenic enough, noise levels vary directly with the number of folks on or near the lake. Both ends of Trail 2 connect to Trail 1; it explores the somewhat quieter northeastern area of the park. Trail 4 connects the campground to the rest of the trail system; its northern section is relatively remote and quiet, though the quality of the woods diminishes somewhat as you approach the campground.
